Welcome to Newton Girls Lacrosse!

Newton Girls Lacrosse is an instructional program with the goals of teaching girls sportsmanship, lacrosse skills, and to be a good team player. Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S., mainly because it is so much fun to play!

A current US Lacrosse membership (must be renewed each year) is required to register with NGL and is available on the US Lacrosse website.

Registration for the spring season of NGL opens November 1st and closes the first week in January each year.  Registration closes so early as our league requires us to register teams in January.  Registration is open for girls in grades 1-8 who live in or attend school in Newton.

Practices begin March 26th and the last practice for the regular season is June 6th.  If your daughter signs up (at a later date) for the jamboree she will practice through June 13th.  We will practice at Weeks field Mondays and Wednesdays 6-7pm (1/2, 3/4 and 5/6 on the Hereward Rd side and 7/8 on the Paul St side).

If grass fields are open on 4/9 and 4/11 practice will be on Weeks field 6-7.  If grass fields are not open on 4/9 and 4/11 practice will be as follows:
1/2 and 3/4 will practice 6-6:45 and 5/6 and 7/8 will practice 6:45-7:30
(the town typically announces if fields are open or not by 3pm on the day in question)

Teams When grade 1-2 teams are made we try to keep schools together.  Our goal with all other teams is to make them even.  One mutual friend request is allowed for grades 3-8.  Girls must play at their grade level.

Games against other towns are on Sunday afternoons and in 2018 will be on April 8th, 22nd, 29th, May 6th, 13th, 20th and June 3rd, 10th for grades 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8.  Grade 1/2 may play each other in some form on Sunday afternoons for the first half of the season (if grass fields are available- the grade 1/2 coordinator will send out details) and will play games against other towns the 2nd half of the season (starting 5/13 for 2 teams and 5/6 for 1 team).  Fields are closed 4/8/18 so 1/2s will not play against each other this day.

A Jamboree will be held on June 17th at Lincoln-Sudbury High School - a great end-of-season event for players in all of the towns in the league!  You can choose if you want your daughter to participate in this event or not.  We will send out more information during the season regarding this event and looking for a headcount of who wants to play.

Equipment required for all players: a girls' lacrosse stick, girls' lacrosse goggles, and a colored mouth guard (clear and white mouth guards are illegal in girls' lacrosse).  Although optional we also recommend cleats and a water bottle.

Select teams (Pioneer League) These are teams that grade 5/6 and 7/8 girls can potentially play on in addition to the Newton Rec League team.

These teams offer the opportunity for players to play more competitive lacrosse. These teams will play games on April 13th, 27th, May 4th, 11th, 18th and June 1st with a possible tourament of champions on June 8th for 7-8 select teams.

Uniforms  We are excited for new uniforms this year.  Thank you to Beth Gundy and Happy Farrow for all of their work on uniforms!  If you have questions regarding uniforms please contact Beth tbdctg@gmail.com.  Uniforms have arrived for all families that ordered them on time.   Girls will wear their uniform tops to all practices as these will act as pinnies this year.
