Welcome to Newton Girls Lacrosse!

If you have questions regarding NGL that are not answered below please contact newtongirlslax@gmail.com

Registration for the 2019 season closed on 1/4.  We are at capacity for all grade levels and have closed our waitlist as well.  For next season our registration opens on 11/1/19.

Newton Girls Lacrosse has been dedicated to providing Newton girls and their families a community based developmental lacrosse program since 2000.  The program delivers a fun, safe and inclusive youth sports environment.  The goals of this instructional program is teaching girls sportsmanship, lacrosse skills, and to be a good team player.

A current US Lacrosse membership (must be renewed each year) is required to register with NGL and is available on the US Lacrosse website.

2019 season We have some fun NGL events planned for the season including our own jamboree of sorts during a practice, another POP party with music and popsicles for all teams, attending more Womens BC lacrosse games together and a few other events.

Registration for the spring season of NGL opens the prior November 1st and closes the first week in January each year (January 4th was the deadline for the 2019 season).  Registration closes so early as our league requires us to register teams in January.  Registration is open for girls in grades 1-8 who live in or attend school in Newton.  Players are guaranteed a spot on a team by registering by this deadline.

Practices grades 3-8 will practice 2 days a week and grades 1-2 will practice 1 day a week prior to April vacation and 2 days a week after April vacation.

Teams When grade 1-2 teams are made we try to keep schools together.  Our goal with all other teams is to make them even.  One mutual friend request is allowed for grades 3-8.  Girls must play at their grade level.  Grades are combined when teams are made so grades 1 and 2 play together, 3 and 4 play together, 5 and 6 play together and 7 and 8 play together.

Games against other towns are on Sunday afternoons and in 2019 will be:

For grades 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8 (8 games on 4/7, 4/14, 4/28, 5/5, 5/12, 5/19, 6/2, 6/9)

For grades 1/2 (1 town scrimmage with our Newton teams playing each other and 4 league games, town scrimmage on 5/5, league games on 5/12, 5/19, 6/2, 6/9)

A Jamboree will be held on June 16th for the 2019 season at Lincoln-Sudbury High School - a great end-of-season event for players in all of the towns in the league!  You can choose if you want your daughter to participate in this event or not.  We will send out more information during the season regarding this event and looking for a headcount of who wants to play.

Equipment required for all players: a girls' lacrosse stick, girls' lacrosse goggles, and a colored mouth guard (clear and white mouth guards are illegal in girls' lacrosse).  Although optional we also recommend cleats and a water bottle.  Lacrosse gloves or any other kind of glove that will still allow girls to hold their stick are highly recommended for early in the season when it is cold out.  No jewelry is allowed when playing.

Select Teams These are teams that grade 5/6 and 7/8 girls can potentially play on in addition to the Newton Rec League team.

These teams offer the opportunity for players to play more competitive lacrosse. These teams will play games on 6-7 Friday nights during the season, 4/5, 4/12 (possibly), 4/26, 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/31.  For our 2019 season we will have tryouts.  Girls must come to one tryout, but are encouraged to come to both.  Tryouts are 3/9 2-3pm at Newton North and 3/13 7-8pm at BU (more specifics to come).

Uniforms  We were excited to introduce new uniforms in 2018 and are continuing to use the same uniforms in 2019!   Girls wear their uniform tops to all practices as these act as pinnies.  Girls are expected to wear their entire uniform, tops and skirts to all games.
