Welcome to Newton Girls Lacrosse!

Newton Girls Lacrosse is an instructional program with the goals of teaching girls sportsmanship, lacrosse skills, and to be a good team player. Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S., mainly because it is so much fun to play!

A current US Lacrosse membership (must be renewed each year) is required to register with NGL and is available on the US Lacrosse website.

2019 season We have some fun NGL events planned for the season including our own jamboree of sorts during a practice, another POP party with music and popsicles for all teams, attending more Womens BC lacrosse games together and a few other events.

Registration for the spring season of NGL opens November 1st and closes the first week in January each year (January 4th is the deadline for the 2019 season).  Registration closes so early as our league requires us to register teams in January.  Registration is open for girls in grades 1-8 who live in or attend school in Newton.  Players are guaranteed a spot on a team by registering by this deadline.

Practices will begin on Sunday March 24th or Monday March 25th depending on the weather and field availability that week.   The last practice for the regular season will be June 5th.  If your daughter signs up (at a later date) for the jamboree she will practice through June 12th.  We will most likely practice at Weeks field Mondays and Wednesdays (1/2, 3/4 and 5/6 on the Hereward Rd side and 7/8 on the Paul St side) as we did last year.  Based on parent and coach feedback we will be extending practices this year for 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8 and will now practice from 6-7:15pm as daylight allows.  1/2 will continue to practice from 6-7pm.  Note that fields do not get confirmed with the city until closer to the season.
Teams When grade 1-2 teams are made we try to keep schools together.  Our goal with all other teams is to make them even.  One mutual friend request is allowed for grades 3-8.  Girls must play at their grade level.  Grades are combined when teams are made so grades 1 and 2 play together, 3 and 4 play together, 5 and 6 play together and 7 and 8 play together.

Games against other towns are on Sunday afternoons and in 2019 will be:
For grades 5/6 and 7/8 (9 games on 3/31, 4/7, 4/14, 4/28, 5/5, 5/12, 5/19, 6/2, 6/9)

For grades 3/4 (8 games on 4/7, 4/14, 4/28, 5/5, 5/12, 5/19, 6/2, 6/9)

For grades 1/2 (1 town scrimmage with our Newton teams playing each other and 4 league games, town scrimmage on 5/5, league games on 5/12, 5/19, 6/2, 6/9)

A Jamboree will be held on June 16th for the 2019 season at Lincoln-Sudbury High School - a great end-of-season event for players in all of the towns in the league!  You can choose if you want your daughter to participate in this event or not.  We will send out more information during the season regarding this event and looking for a headcount of who wants to play.

Equipment required for all players: a girls' lacrosse stick, girls' lacrosse goggles, and a colored mouth guard (clear and white mouth guards are illegal in girls' lacrosse).  Although optional we also recommend cleats and a water bottle.  Lacrosse gloves or any other kind of glove that will still allow girls to hold their stick are highly recommended for early in the season when it is cold out.  No jewelry is allowed when playing.
Select Teams These are teams that grade 5/6 and 7/8 girls can potentially play on in addition to the Newton Rec League team.
These teams offer the opportunity for players to play more competitive lacrosse. These teams will play games on 6 Friday nights during the season, 4/5, 4/26, 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/31.  For our 2019 season we will have tryouts and these will take place most likely in early March.
Uniforms  We were excited to introduce new uniforms in 2018!   Girls wear their uniform tops to all practices as these act as pinnies.  Girls are expected to wear their entire uniform, tops and skirts to all games.
